NEW COMICS, NEW FESTIVAL HIT ASPEN THIS MAY

…………………………………….

GOODBYE HBO, HELLO ROOFTOP.

When HBO gave Aspen its walking papers in the spring of 2007,
a lot of people thought that was the end of great comedy
in the world’s greatest little mountain town.

BOY WERE THEY WRONG.

———————————————————————-
THE GREATEST COMICS YOU’VE NEVER SEEN

If there’s one thing the Wheeler Opera House does really well (and there are many), it’s stand-up comedy. And if there’s a faster-growing or more exciting home on the Internet for comedy than RooftopComedy.com, we haven’t found it.

That’s why we’ve been working with the good folks at Rooftop for almost a year to bring Aspen a brilliant new comedy festival that features the fastest-rising and funniest new stand-up comics working today.

They come from all over America, especially from places you’d never imagine, and now they’re set to descend on Aspen on Friday, May 30 and Saturday, May 31 for a very special inaugural two-day, six-show festival that’s all about serving Aspen’s always-eager comedy fans.

The line-up of shows is as follows (always subject to change, but we think we have it locked down pretty good now):
* ROOFTOP BEST AND BRIGHTEST opens the festival Friday evening, with six new talents banging down the door for comic glory, including Dave Waite, Lisa Landry, Paul Varghese, Mike E. Winfield, Kevin Camia, and Jeff Taite.
* ROOFTOP AT LARGE gets the prime-time slot Friday night, with extended sets by three comedians already making waves in the media. Chris Porter, Vince Morris, and Robert Hawkins get the honor; you get the laughs.
* ROOFTOP AFTER DARK lets the comedic devils roam free after the kiddies are put to bed. Tyrone Hawkins, Andi Smith, Isaac Witty, Steve Wilson, and Auggie Smith let the jokes fly.

* Saturday starts with the finals for the NATIONAL CAMPUS COMEDY COMPETITION, where six seriously-funny students from college campuses across the U.S. slug it out for the NCCC crown.
* ROOFTOP BEST AND BRIGHTEST #2 brings six more hot up and comers to the Wheeler stage to prove their chops. Look for John Ramsey, Matt Braunger, Erin Foley, Robert Buscemi, Nathan Trenholm and Lamar Williams to raise the bar and roll out the laughs.
* The festival concludes with THE BIG SHOW, with three comics already hot on such comedy outlets at Comedy Central, VH-1, and MTV. Tig Nogato, Mike Lucas, and Jimmy Dore bring it home on a high note.

Two days, six shows, over thirty comics. It’s the perfect event to start off the summer pre-season. It’s rock ‘n roll without the annoying ringing in the ears. It’s the most fun this side of Bermuda shorts and bikini waxes.

AND IT’S FOR THE LOCALS. Unlike the HBO Festival, this is all about getting comics in front of YOU, not the entertainment industry. They’ll be here, but YOU will come first.

AND HERE’S HOW: Get yourself an All-Access “Independence Pass” lanyard for only $55.00 per person and see all six shows. [The regular price is $65.00.] Just come to the Wheeler with proof of local residence and get your locals discount. “Independence Pass” sales will start on MONDAY, MAY 5th at 10am.

Tickets for individual shows will go on sale much closer to the events, with whatever seats remain available. But for $55.00 a person, you can’t go wrong with an “Independence Pass”!

So stick around town after the Pass and the Bells open. It’s going to be a beautiful time to be in Aspen, and a great time to get in on some of the hottest new talents in comedy.

CARBONDALE ? The name of the new film festival coming to Carbondale ? the 5Point Film Festival ? is borrowed from rock climbers? terminology; climbing routes are ranked for difficulty on a five-point system.
