THE HOLIDAYS ARE COMING … TIME FOR FAMILY FUN AND HO HO HOS … FOR HOLIDAY GUESTS AND CRAZY-BUSY SCHEDULES … COULD YOU USE A MOOD ADJUSTMENT?
———————————————————————

Oh what a year it’s been, starting with a season of epic snow (yaaay!) and ending with a market meltdown (booo!), and it seems like we’ve had everything in between.

Now it’s time to look around and celebrate life and living in Aspen, and how better to do that than with the town’s all-time #1 ambassador, John Denver.
———————————————————————

HAL THAU PRODUCED IT, DANNY WHEETMAN MADE SURE THE MUSIC WAS RIGHT, AND THE ROAD TESTED IT. THIS SHOW IS 100% JOHN DENVER CERTIFIED.

No one loved the holidays more than John Denver, and no one was closer to John than his longtime manager and friend, Hal Thau. So when Hal started thinking about creating a great show for the holidays, he looked close to home.

Hal’s been producing great shows for a long, long time. From the landmark production of Sam Shepard’s TRUE WEST Off-Broadway in the 1980s to last year’s Tony-winning SPRING AWAKENING, Hal has an eye and ear for what works.

A JOHN DENVER HOLIDAY CONCERT isn’t a tribute show. It’s channeling the spirit of John back to Aspen to bring the holiday spirit home to all of us. Great songs, performed by powerful young voices, taking John’s legacy and giving it a new generation to set soaring. And there are plenty of holiday standards between those haunting Denver classics.

CO-SPONSORED WITH THE WHEELER ASSOCIATES, A JOHN DENVER HOLIDAY CONCERT is a gift for the entire family. Five performances, all starting at 7:30pm, starting on Friday, December 19 and every night through Tuesday, December 23. Tickets are $40.00 and the next best thing to seeing John back on the Wheeler stage.

FROM HOLIDAY HITS SUCH AS “CHRISTMAS FOR COWBOYS” AND “ASPENGLOW”
TO JOHN’S OWN “ANNIE’S SONG,” “ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH,” AND SONGS
OF THE SEASON, A JOHN DENVER HOLIDAY CONCERT IS A SHOW NOT TO MISS.

BABY, IT’S GETTING COLD OUTSIDE. MUST BE TIME TO COME INSIDE AT NIGHT … AND WHAT BETTER PLACE THAN THE WHEELER WITH SHOWS LIKE THESE?

———————————————————————-

~ WHEELER ASSOCIATE MEMBERS GET FIRST DIBS ~

As a WHEELER ASSOCIATES email subscriber, you’ve already gotten the first word on a number of great shows coming up this season … Bernadette Peters, Lily Tomlin, Vusi Mahlasela, Chris Hillman & John McEuen, Tom Rush, “Last Comic Standing,” and a whole lot more.

And here are eight more great reasons to stay in town this winter and let the world come to you.
* LIME CREEK CHRISTMAS, Monday and Tuesday, December 8 and 9, with a special 7pm start time. Woody Creek resident and Nashville lyricist JOE HENRY is known around the world for his insightful and spiritual Western-tinged writing, and his LIME CREEK works were a staple of the Wheeler back over a decade ago. Now Joe and close friend ANTHONY ZERBE (one of the great character actors of the small and large screens) bring back Joe’s holiday celebration about a man who returns to the ranch where he was raised, with Country vocalists HANK KETCHUM and BETH NEILSEN CHAPMAN delivering the musical goods. $27.50/$25.00 adults; $20.00 18 and under (this show is appropriate for children over 12).

* Also coming to the Wheeler via Woody Creek, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame legend JOHN OATES kicks it up on Saturday, December 27, with his three-piece band. Featuring music from his new solo release 1000 MILES OF LIFE, this is Oates unplugged and at his finest. Get the best seats before our out-of-town guests beat you to it. And if you’re a Roaring Fork Valley resident, John and the Wheeler are offering you a very special Locals Ticket - our way of saying happy holidays to you! Regular price $45.00 all seats/RFV Locals price $25.00 all seats (must be purchased in person at the box office with proof of RFV residency).

* If you haven’t heard yet, 2009 will mark the Wheeler’s 25th year since the 1984 reopening, and we hope to make it special for locals all year long. How to kick it off? Well, how about with Utah’s amazing rock/bluegrass/country ensemble RYAN SHUPE & THE RUBBER BAND? Booked for Friday, January 9 (Winterskol Friday), locals tickets are only $5 and include a chit good for one free drink at our bar. Does it get better than that?! [Locals tix must be purchased in person at the box office with proof of RFV residency.]

* Making his fourth Wheeler appearance and third Winterskol play in a row, Texas’ own ROBERT EARL KEEN brings more armadillo madness to our stage on Saturday, January 10, at a special 9pm start time, right after the torchlight parade and fireworks. He’s sold out three years in a row, so you can expect four will be the charm. $40.00 all seats.

* Just added to the February calendar, another Wheeler perennial, THE SECOND CITY NATIONAL TOURING COMPANY, makes it up as they go along on Friday, February 13. SCNTC is always a sell-out favorite and we’re holding our tickets at 2006 prices, so make this your best Friday The Thirteenth ever. $27.50 all seats.

* He’s been missing in action for over ten years, but we lured him out of his man-cave. JERRY JEFF WALKER, one of Texas’ finest native sons, finally returns to the Wheeler armed with a new guitar and more adventures from Luckenbach on Saturday, February 21. We expect this to possibly be our hottest ticket of the year, so don’t wait. $65.00 all seats.

* Six-string virtuosity goes wild when GUITAR BLUES bring three distinct talents (and Aspen favorites) together for one glorious evening of twelve-bar improvisation on Wednesday, February 25. Jefferson Airplane/Hot Tuna founder JORMA KAUKONEN, The Yellowjackets’ ROBBIN FORD, and Austin City Limits fave RUTHIE FOSTER do it solo and in combination all night long. Co-presented with The Wheeler Associates. $39.50 all seats.

* And closing out the new offerings (for now) is the iconic ARLO GUTHRIE, who hasn’t been back our way in over a decade. If you’ve ever seen Arlo live, you know that it’s going to be a great, unpredictable, totally unforgettable evening. Expect the unexpected on Tuesday, March 24. Co-presented with The Wheeler Associates. $45.00 all seats.
