GET YOUR HO ON!
THE WHEELER CLOSES OUT 2008 WITH
“A JOHN DENVER HOLIDAY CONCERT,”PLUS
THREE SHOWS SPECIALLY CREATED FOR ASPEN!

———————————————————————-

THIS WEEK: “A JOHN DENVER HOLIDAY CONCERT”
No one loved the holidays like John Denver, and Hal Thau channels his #1 client and Aspen’s #1 favorite son back on the Wheeler stage with “A JOHN DENVER HOLIDAY CONCERT,” starting this FRIDAY, DECEMBER 19, through TUESDAY, DECEMBER 23rd. $40.00 adults; $25 children 12 & under.

———————————————————————-

NEIGHBOR TO NEIGHBOR: JOHN OATES IS TOTALLY UNPLUGGED

Woody Creek neighbor and rock/pop/songwriting legend JOHN OATES is full of surprises this holiday season. Here’s four reasons why:
* He’s doing a very special full-band acoustic evening at the Wheeler, on SATURDAY, DECEMBER 27th at 8pm. This is the first time John’s done a full-out concert at the Wheeler since 2002 - and far too long!
* He’ll be doing everything from classic Oates material to the knockout songs on his brand-new album “1000 Miles Of Life.”
* He and the Wheeler are offering a VERY SPECIAL LOCALS-ONLY price of $25.00 for any seat in the house. Just show up at our box office with proof of local residency. Just our way of saying happy holidays to the people we treasure the most!
* The show will be RECORDED LIVE for both an audio and video release. Don’t miss this chance to become part of Wheeler history!

There’s a reason why John Oates is a living legend, and his voice is stronger now than it’s ever been. And John is the ultimate good neighbor, making sure everyone feels comfortable in the “best little living room in Aspen” - the Wheeler Opera House.

And if you’re not a local, don’t worry - the ticket price is only $45.00, plus limited premium seats at $75.00.

———————————————————————-
FAST, LOUD, AND OUT OF CONTROL. AND FUNNY. OH YEAH.

When we produced the four-part “WHAT’S SO FUNNY?” comedy series with good friend David Brenner last winter, we knew we had a good thing. What we didn’t know is that it would be so good that we’d want to bring the best of the best back during the holidays for a full-scale stand-up blow-out.

Of course, once we saw how funny they were, there was no question about it. So coming back to the Wheeler on SUNDAY, DECEMBER 28th at 8pm are the four funniest from a very funny series of stand-up shows.

You could call it the straight girl, the gay girl, the black guy, and the white guy, but we call it THE BEST OF “DAVID BRENNER PRESENTS ‘WHAT’S SO FUNNY?’”. Karen Rontowski, Dana Goldberg, Billy D Washington, and Tom Simmons are the talent that made you laugh til you wept. Alas, David Brenner will not be with them, except in spirit, but he has given this show his comedic blessing (and probably wishes that he’d be in Aspen, instead of performing in San Francisco that night!).

$30 all seats, and definitely the best entertainment value in town!

———————————————————————-

THE ONLY LIVING LEGEND LEFT ON BROADWAY

When you start your Broadway career at age three (as she did with the original GYPSY), you stand a more than middling shot at becoming an entertainment legend. And BERNADETTE PETERS has always been one to follow a good script.

Whether she was originating roles for Stephen Sondheim (INTO THE WOODS, SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE) or reviving classics of the Great White Way (ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, and her own shot at GYPSY), Bernadette has spent more time than anyone treading those storied boards and leaving her indelible mark on the American songbook. Her voice is still so powerhouse, windows have been known to rattle in Brooklyn.

And she’ll rattle them again at the Wheeler, on MONDAY, DECEMBER 29th at 8pm, complete with fifteen-piece orchestra. If you missed her sold-out concert two Christmas seasons ago, you have a second chance to catch Bernadette Peters as only a lucky few ever have - in a small, perfect-acoustics chamber like the Wheeler, never more than fifty feet from our jewel-box stage. It’s the perfect setting for the only star left on Broadway.

Tickets are $150.00 and $125.00 (the price of nosebleed seats in New York!), with limited premium seats at $225.00. Treat yourself to a bona fide treasure this holiday season.

———————————————————————-
STILL CAN’T DECIDE? GIFT CERTIFICATES!
We all have that finicky someone on our holiday shopping list, and what better way to deal with tough standards that to give a Wheeler gift certificate! Available in increments of $25.00, you’re sure to please that impossible-to-please someone, since the Wheeler features over 200 shows and films (and then some!) every year.

HEAR THAT WOOSHING SOUND?
THAT’S 2008 SLIPPING AWAY!

LET’S EASE THIS CRAZY YEAR CLOSER TO THE DOOR
WITH THREE GREAT SHOWS AT THE WHEELER!

———————————————————————-

LIME CREEK CHRISTMAS: ASPEN AS IT USED TO BE

Local hero JOE HENRY’s novel-in-progress LIME CREEK made for some great live shows in the 1990s, with the likes of singers like Garth Brooks appearing to sing the glories of Joe’s beloved mythical place.

Now, for the first time in years, Joe’s writing is back in its best-received stage version, LIME CREEK CHRISTMAS, for two special performances on Monday and Tuesday, December 8 and 9.

Star of the large and small screen ANTHONY ZERBE is the mind behind the stagework, and Anthony’s back, along with top Nashville talent HAL KETCHUM and BETH NEILSEN CHAPMAN.

Story, song, and spirit all combine in this great evening out for the whole family, and what a great way to put the good and bad of 2008 into perspective - reunderstanding what makes life special in our valley, as only Joe Henry and friends can play it.

Adult tickets are $27.50 and $25.00, and all kids 18 and under can get seats for $20.00. Special 7pm start time!

———————————————————————-
THE ELECTION’S OVER, THE YEAR’S DONE, WALL STREET’S BOOKS ARE COOKED. FUNNY STUFF? ARE YOU KIDDING?

With so much schmuckitude packed into one little year, expert comedy improv troupe CHICAGO CITY LIMITS’ biggest challenge will be how to keep a night of crazy on-the-spot comedy from going on all night.

Think you’ve heard the last of Sarah Palin (didn’t we all a few weeks back)? Want one more shot at the financial disaster? Wonder why their show actually has a title - and it’s “REVENGE OF THE REINDEER”???

This tour marks CHICAGO CITY LIMITS’ first visit to the Wheeler stage, and right when we need them the most. Wednesday, December 10 at 8pm. $27.50 all seats. Cheap therapy!!!

———————————————————————-
TIME TO DIG OUT THE FAMILY ALBUM? FIRST, CONSIDER THE FAMILY.

After JESUS IN MONTANA, AMERICAN SQUATTER, and a running commentary in The Aspen Times over the course of two summer touring season, Aspenites know the witty, wooly world of BARRY SMITH.

And now Barry brings forth his next exodus into the deepest reaches of … well, Barry Smith. Check out his brand-new one-man showpiece BARRY SMITH’S BABY BOOK, leaving the womb for the first (but not last) time on Thursday, December 11. $10.00 all seats.

———————————————————————-

AND REMEMBER - NOTHING FITS BETTER UNDER THE TREE (OR IN YOUR WALLET) LIKE TICKETS THIS CHRISTMAS!

No kidding - tickets to great shows make people happy! And the Wheeler offers several neat and convenient ways to go for all your holiday shopping.

GIFT CERTIFICATES put the power in the hands of the receiver, and they’re good for live shows or movies. Offered in very convenient $25 increments, they’re sure to put a smile on that special person’s face.

Or - with so many great shows on our calendar - help friends and family explore everything from the most soulful voice of South Africa to a Broadway legend to great stand-up comedy. Here’s just a few of the shows coming up in 2008-2009:
* JOHN OATES UNPLUGGED - John and his three-piece band playing songs from his new “1000 Miles Of Life” CD as well as Hall & Oates and other classics. SATURDAY, DECEMBER 27. Ask about the $25 special locals-only ticket - but act quickly before they’re all gone (offer expires 12/17 and must be done in person at the box office)!
* THE BEST OF “DAVID BRENNER PRESENTS: WHAT’S SO FUNNY?” - The top comedian from each of the four Brenner-produced shows from last season makes for four wild rides down the new frontier of stand-up. Karen Rontowski, Dana Goldberg, Billy D. Washington, and Tom Simmons will have you laughing for two nonstop hours. SUNDAY, DECEMBER 28.
* BERNADETTE PETERS - The sell-out hit of the 2006 holiday season returns in that rarest of all attractions: An intimate evening with a Broadway legend. MONDAY, DECEMBER 29.
* LAST COMIC STANDING - The hit NBC talent/reality show takes its Top Five on the road, with a double stop in Aspen. Two shows, same day. SUNDAY, JANUARY 18.
* CHRIS HILLMAN & JOHN McEUEN - Former Byrd and Burrito meets Dirt Band stringmaster. Actually, they’re old friends, playing together again for the first time in years. SATURDAY, JANUARY 31.
* VUSI MAHLASELA - “The Voice” from South Africa, returning to Aspen with his band for a full night of African magic. FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 20.
* JERRY JEFF WALKER - The Governor of the great state of Luckenbach, Texas and a part of the Wheeler’s sell-out history who’s been away for too long. SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 21.
* AN EVENING OF CLASSIC LILY TOMLIN - Star of stage and screen and another old friend we’ve gone too long without. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 18.
* ARLO GUTHRIE - He could be solo, he could be with son Abe, he could bring an entire band. Does it matter? Any evening with Arlo is a legendary evening. TUESDAY, MARCH 24.

These shows and many more are on sale now!

MAKE YOUR DOLLAR STRETCH FARTHER!
WHEELER TICKETS ARE ALWAYS A BARGAIN
AND IT’S ALWAYS A GREAT SHOW ON OUR STAGE.

LET YOUR LAST MEMORIES OF 2008 BE FABULOUS!

AND THANKS FOR ANOTHER GREAT SEASON OF ENTERTAINMENT AND MORE
AT ASPEN’S FAVORITE YEAR-ROUND VENUE.
